TOP 10 BLACK WEBSERIES
03:55
Anyone who knows me, knows I love a good drama. From, Suits , Scandal and Criminal Minds to Game of Thrones, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars (the A reveal was so disappointing)... I watch a lot.
However my main criticism of most mainstream shows (bar scandal) is the lack of ethnic diversity in casting/characters. There is a huge difference between a show having a character who happens to be black and having a character who's blackness is a part of the show. Anyway a few years ago I stumbled across Awkward Black Girl, saw too much of myself in Jay and instantly became hooked on Web-series.
I've searched high and low and watched some really bad ones and found excellent shows that I really related too. The most enthralling thing about Web-series is the diversity in content - each show tackles very different subject matter and in turn everyones top 10 won't be the same. Another plus is that not only are there African-American Web-series, but Black British ones too. Black-Brits are often forgotten when it comes to British programming (this is a topic for another post), so to see my peers and hear stories (and accents) I can relate to was an entirely new experience for me.
Nonetheless, here are my top 10 Black Web-series (in no particular order), feel free to add to the list in the comment section:
1. Awkward Black Girl
2. Roomieloverfriends
3. Life of Hers (my favourite).
4. Smoke & Mirrors
5. Brothers With No Game (another fave)
6. Ackee & Saltfish
7. Hello Cupid
8. Spin
9. Black & Single
10. Housemates
Which was your favourite?
